Welcome to the Sunshine State! Upward Bound students who had successfully completed 2016 Summer Academy, had outstanding grades, attendance, attitude, and had written an essay on a topic pertaining to the state of Florida were eligible to participate in this year's spring merit trip.
Summer is just around the corner. This means flip-flops, shorts, barbeque, ice cream, swimming pools, and, of course, Upward Bound Summer Academy! We have a summer full of activities for our students.
IUPUI Upward Bound offered several exciting opportunities to our students during the 2017 spring semester. At the start of the semester we introduced an opportunity for our students to volunteer for MLK Day of Service.
My name is Clifton Jett. I'm a 2016 graduate of Warren Central High School and a graduate of the IUPUI Upward Bound program for which I was a summer 2016 employee.
For the past year, I have had the privilege of serving as President of the Educational Opportunity Association (EOA). This association is for professionals who work in TRIO programs like Upward Bound in a 10-state region in the Midwest.
Greetings to my IUPUI Upward Bound family! It is always a pleasure to serve you! As I think about what I am most thankful for this holiday season, I am most thankful for the opportunity to share my experiences as a business professional and educator.
Dolly Parton’s iconic song, “Working 9 to 5,” kicked off Upward Bound’s Career Day. Students had the opportunity to speak with professionals from CVS Pharmacy, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, NCAA, Salesforce, IU Health, Indianapolis Fire Department, and a host of other companies. UB student Joseph Jackson defined Career Day as “inspirational and very informative.”
Upward Bound had several exciting events this fall! One new event added to the schedule this fall was Saddle Bound.
As an academic coordinator, I plan to help you be successful at school and in the program.

Latashiana Destiny Garrett won the Upward Bound 2016/English 11 Poetry Slam contest with her poem, "My Black Isn't Beautiful." Also, see the list of students who ended the 2015-2016 Academic Year with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Several IUPUI Upward Bound Program participants attended the 2016 Men of Excellence conference in DeKalb, Illinois. This year's second annual Girls in STEM conference was held at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, May 20-22nd.
This summer has been another exciting experience for our Upward Bound students. Over the last two months, students got to take college-style classes in a variety of subjects, adjust to dorm-style living, and participate in enriching activities from swimming to travel.
We had several exciting events in the spring! This year we added a cultural dinner experience to our scheduled activities. This semester we have tried "Greek Islands", "Inkas Peruvian Cuisine", and "Carniceria Guanajuato."
Upward Bound offered a wide variety of special events during the fall semester. Students tried food from South Korea and Ethiopia as part of our monthly cultural dinner experiences. Students visited Indiana Wesleyan University and University of Southern Indiana to learn more about what these colleges offer.
