  • What country will you be visiting and when? I will be visiting Thailand. I’ll leave January 3rd and will be there for three months.

  • Did you have to apply for this opportunity? If so, what did it entail? All I had to do to have this experience was sign up. There were no specific requirements.

Study Abroad

  • Why did you decide to participate? I decided to participate in this program because I saw it as a great opportunity, and I thought it could open lots of doors for me academically.

  • How are you preparing for the trip? The program is actually preparing us for our trip in lots of different ways. One way is through team-building activities and service-learning activities. The team-building activities have brought all the students closer and that will be very useful when we’re home sick in Thailand! The service-learning activities have helped us realize lots of different ways to help people. We were also taken to a Thai restaurant to get an idea of how the food will taste. The best way they have been preparing us is with parent meetings each month to let us know what we need to bring, how to pack, what shots we need, etc.

  • What are you most excited for? I’m most excited to learn about the culture, and to experience how different it is from the United States.

  • What are you most nervous about? I’m most nervous about the home-stays because I feel like I won’t be able to sleep because I’ll feel weird that I’m staying with strangers.

  • Did you have to apply for this opportunity? If so, what did it entail? I did have to apply for this opportunity. I had to answer some questions from a Google form and had to have a recommendation from a teacher and a non-family individual.

  • Why did you decide to participate? I chose to participate because it has been my dream to study abroad. When I heard of this opportunity, I just knew I had to do it. It would make me push my education forward.

  • How are you preparing for the trip? In class they help to prepare us. They have taught us many things including how to appreciate other cultures. We’ve also learned more about ourselves and have grown personally since the beginning of the semester. We’ve also learned about helping others and the community with the social wheel of change.

  • What are you most excited for? I’m most excited to visit the Buddhist temples and interact with the local Thai people and learn about their culture.

  • What are you most nervous about? I’m not really nervous about anything actually, except maybe flying for 31 hours with layovers; it will be very tiring
