Greetings to my IUPUI Upward Bound family! It is always a pleasure to serve you. As I think about what I am most thankful for this holiday season, I am most thankful for the opportunity to share my experiences as a business professional and educator. In light of that, I am happy to share three tips that will enable you to get the most out of tutoring, and you know we encourage our students to engage in tutoring!
Tutoring is not always homework help.
Keep track of your grades the same way you keep track of your money.
In addition to seeking out assistance with homework, use tutoring as a time to plan for completing upcoming assignments. Staying ahead of your homework and reading assignments will make you stand out among your peers to your teachers. As a future professional, you want to start your professional career now by developing yourself into an organized, prepared, and serious student. Your professional persona could lead to higher grades and better career options.
Sometimes instructors make mistakes in calculating your grade, so you should keep track of your grades based on the assignments, tests, and quizzes returned to you. By tracking your grades, you can become more proactive and take action toward raising your grade in a particular class. By starting this habit now, it will carry over when you start your college career. Know the grades you have in your classes like you know how much money you have in your purse or wallet!
Work hard! Play hard! Enjoying life is very important to me, and it should be to you, too. I plan my personal and social activities the same way I plan my professional ones: I schedule time to socialize with family and friends. Effectively planning your academic and professional life will enable you to have a more successful personal life.
The will to succeed is important, but what's more important is the will to prepare.Coach Bob Knight
